Built On The Back Of Success

Every element of this workshop is structured around maximising your chances of meaningful encounters. Across four days, you will spend time in purpose-built hides, positioned in areas where lynx activity is well documented and active.

Rather than rushing between locations, this experience rewards patience. Long sessions allow you to observe behaviour, anticipate movement and work carefully with light and background, even in a hide. When the moment comes, you are already in position.

A Landscape That Sustained the Lynx
The Iberian lynx has lived and hunted in this region for decades, long before it became known as a photographic destination. These hills, tracks and scrublands form part of an established territory where generations of lynx have learned to move, stalk and survive. The terrain itself plays a vital role, offering cover, vantage points and hunting corridors that suit the lynx’s highly specialised way of life.

At the heart of the lynx’s survival here is a single species: the European rabbit, which makes up the vast majority of the lynx’s diet. When rabbit populations collapsed in the late twentieth century due to disease and habitat loss, lynx numbers fell dramatically, pushing the species to the brink of extinction.

A Conservation Success Story
The recovery of the Iberian lynx is one of Europe’s most remarkable conservation success stories, and it began with the reintroduction and protection of rabbit populations. Habitat restoration, disease management and carefully managed breeding programmes helped rebuild a stable food source, allowing lynx numbers to recover naturally. With food once again abundant, the lynx returned to using its traditional territories, including this very area.

Photographing lynx here is not just about the animal itself. It is about witnessing the result of decades of conservation work, where restoring balance to the ecosystem has allowed one of Europe’s most elusive predators to reclaim its rightful place in the landscape.

Once on the brink of extinction, the Iberian lynx remains one of the rarest wild felines on Earth. Seeing one in the wild is a privilege. Photographing one well is something far fewer people will ever experience.

While sightings can never be guaranteed, the combination of location, timing and hide access offers an opportunity that is exceptionally difficult to replicate independently. When a lynx appears, it is often unhurried, moving naturally through its territory, giving photographers the chance to create images with depth, atmosphere and authenticity
